"Green Course" student organization

The Green Course ("Megama Yeruka") chapter at Tel Aviv University is made up of students working in cooperation with researchers and staff at Tel Aviv University who are interested in working together on climate change issues, to change the environmental reality on campus and beyond.

This year's main campaigns:

  • To build a vibrant climate community on campus and increase knowledge and involvement on climate change across the university community.
  • To work together with TAU's Carbon Neutrality Program and motivate the university to divest from investments in companies connected to fossil fuels.
  • To join national Green Course campaigns (including rehabilitation of areas in southern Israel affected by the war, the annual Climate March, promoting renewable energy, etc.)

The Green Course chapter operates according to the model of community organization theory, whereby a group of individuals with a shared story and values work together for the betterment of society.

It runs a range of activities, including environmental events on campus (lectures, workshops, fairs), digital communications, PR, community relations and connections with university officials and faculty. The chapter operates democratically: all of its members have the right to shape its programs, with the goal that each person takes on a task that he or she can excel at, develop and enjoy.

Members meet on campus once every two weeks for a social gathering and to synchronize their tasks and goals.

Volunteering in return for academic credit! Starting from this academic year, TAU Green Course members studying towards a bachelor's degree can receive academic credit for their volunteer projects as part of the university’s elective courses (40 hours for 2 credits, for those eligible). There are conditions and an application process to go through – always read the fine print – but it's totally worth it!
