Areas of Engagement

Climate Initative - Areas of Engagement

The climate initiative focuses its activities on a number of “Areas of Engagement” whose goal is to bring about a comprehensive, interdisciplinary and multi-sector engagement for a specific topic. To contribute to finding solutions, the project defined major issues where there is a room for a highly effective contribution. These areas form a bridge between academic knowledge and the university’s ongoing research and teaching on climate issues and between the development of innovative solutions to challenges of the climate crisis today, globally and in Israel.

The areas were selected after a mapping process with partners on campus, in which prominent fields of specialization of the university were located that could bring added value to dealing with the climate crisis in Israel today. Three areas were chosen: 1. climate crisis and the finance sector, 2. regional climate (Mediterranean, Middle East), 3. changes in consumption and behavior in light of the climate crisis.

Each area operates according to work plan for describing main challenges, Mapping the state of academic knowledge in the field, and identifying knowledge needs and interventions in different sectors.  The process includes interdisciplinary meetings between university researchers, meetings with stakeholders including local authorities and government and organizations in the private sector, and the preparation of products and events to transfer knowledge and tools to stakeholders and decision makers.
